Ronja Salmi is the CEO of Ryöväri Oy and a journalist. She is one of the most experienced TV journalists of her generation and known for the show Mitä mietit, Ronja Salmi? on Yle. The show deals with themes and challenges relevant to young adults. She was awarded Host of the Year 2017 at Speakersforum’s Vuoden Puhuja gala. Ronja has worked as a host and a moderator in a wide range of contexts in both Finnish and English.
Since 2016 Ronja has written a regular column for Helsingin Sanomat, the largest daily news publication in Finland. She participated in the creation of artist Samuli Putro’s albums Pienet rukoukset (2019) and Keskellä kesää (2021) as an editor. On the newer album she also made her debut as a songwriter.
In her work Ronja utilises social media, especially Instagram. Her account reaches over 27,000 followers and she is in frequent dialogue with her audience on the subjects she’s currently working on.
Ronja started her career in media at age 17 with a focus on adolescent and teen programming. Thus a large part of her audience have now been following Ronja for over ten years and have grown up with her programmes. She has authored books for schoolchildren, teens and young adults.
Ronja is the Head of Program for Helsinki Book Fair since 2018. For this work she was named “Impression-Maker of the Year” at the 2019 annual Mesoaja Awards. During Salmi’s directorship Helsinki Book Fair has gathered the highest crowds in history, two years in a row. The 2019 event hosted more than 90,000 attendees over four days. The 2020 Helsinki Book Fair was held as a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
